Step out into the sun with a little 70s vibe in one of Summer 2016’s must-wear item: the suede jacket. This season though, we’re doing away with the trademark fringe that typically goes with this material, thank God. The focus lies on creating a clean retro silhouette that’s not too tight, not too loose, something that will allow for some ventilation during the hot days while still cutting a sharp, modern line.
Now, how do you wear it? A piece in rich brown is probably the most versatile one you can get this season. It goes with a lot more colours than any other, while keeping your hue selection in check for Summer. If it were grey, black, or blue, you would sensibly be restricted to a cool palette. Getting something in a warm tone, however, like this exquisite Hackett London Mayfair bomber that I’m wearing, points you in the right direction in choosing complimentary, season-appropriate shades.
I chose to pair it with a light blue Oxford shirt and white chinos to keep the look neutral and let the jacket be the highlight of the whole look. I finished it off with brown canvas derbies and retro wooden sunnies and came up with an outfit that’s perfect for a weekend brunch or a road trip to the mountains.
